Everyone has the occasional bad day. We all have moments when we don’t feel like our best selves; when we look in the mirror and see something that doesn’t live up to our expectations of what we want to be.
Sometimes, it can seem like there is no way out, that this feeling will always be present. That isn’t true though! There are many ways to help you feel better about your body and here are just a few:
Change your routine
If you’re in a rut, it can be tough to find the energy to do anything about your body image. However, if you make small changes to your daily routine, it can be a lot easier. Try going for a walk after dinner instead of watching TV or take a different route to work.
Find what you love
It can be really hard to feel good about our bodies if we don’t like the way we look. However, if you can find things that make you happy, it becomes a lot easier. Make a list of things that make you happy – whether it’s painting, hiking or reading – and try and do them more often.
Don’t compare yourself to others
We are all different and that is a good thing! Comparing yourself to others is never going to make you feel good about yourself. So, stop looking at social media and comparing your life to what you see online.
Find people who support you
When it comes to body image, it can be tough to find people who understand how you feel. However, if you can find friends or family members who support you, it can make a big difference. Talking to someone about how you feel can also help to make you feel better.
Eat healthy foods
Eating unhealthy foods can make us feel bad about bodies. However, if we eat more healthy foods, it can make us feel good. Try making one meal a day all about vegetables or drinking more water – you’ll soon notice the difference!
Be kind to your body
Being positive is really important when it comes to feeling good about our bodies. So, start showing your body some love! If you see something that you don’t like, try and find something that you do like instead of just focusing on the negative thing.
If you exercise regularly, it can help to improve how we feel about our bodies as well as many other things too! Even if it’s just taking a walk every night after dinner, do what feels right for you and make sure you make time to exercise.
Take care of your skin
Taking care of your skin is a really important part of feeling good about how we look and it can also help prevent problems in the future too! Use products that are gentle on your skin and always remember to moisturize during dry periods like winter months.
Get enough sleep and rest every day
If you’re getting plenty of sleep and resting when you need to, it will keep your body healthy and satisfied – which means you feel better about yourself overall! So, switch off Netflix at night and try taking an afternoon nap instead!
Take time for yourself
Taking some time to do something you love is a great way to feel good about your body! If you want, try drawing or writing in a journal as a form of meditation. It can help you to take time out and focus on the positive things going on in your life – which will make it much easier to look at yourself in a more loving light.
Make an effort with your appearance
If you put effort into how you look before going out, it means that when others look at you they’ll notice the effort too! So, whether that means putting on makeup or changing up your hairstyle, doing this can help to remind ourselves that we are worth taking care of – even if we don’t always feel that way.
It can be hard to give ourselves compliments, but it’s a really important thing to do! If you can start to say nice things about yourself out loud on a regular basis, it will help to improve your relationship with your body. Try writing down 5 things you like about yourself every day and read them back to yourself before bed.
Get rid of toxic people
Some people in our lives like to make us feel terrible about ourselves with their words or actions. When this happens it can be really difficult to not take the comments on board! So, whether they’re family members, friends or partners – if someone is making you feel bad about yourself in some way, make sure to get rid of them. It’s the only way you can live a happier life.
Get into a routine
Having a good morning or evening routine is great for helping you feel better about yourself and it can also help with stress too! If you can make time to do things like read, meditate or take some time out alone every day – it will make a big difference overall.
Surround yourself with positive people
On the other hand, it can be really helpful to surround yourself with positive people who will only say good things about you! These people can be hard to find but they are definitely worth the effort! When you do meet them, make sure to hold onto them tightly and let their positivity rub off on you.
Take up a new hobby
Doing something we love is a great way to feel better about our bodies because we forget all about the flaws when we’re having fun! So, whether it means signing up for art classes or learning how to surf, find something that you’re interested in and go for it!
Don’t focus on your weight
Weighing ourselves obsessively or constantly checking our weight in the mirror is definitely not a good way to feel better about our bodies! If we can try and refrain from doing this, it will help us to focus on our health and how our body feels – rather than getting caught up in numbers and wishing we were thinner.
Be easy on yourself
Life is really difficult for everyone at times and when we’re going through a hard time it can be easy to feel like we aren’t good enough – even when that isn’t the case! So, if you start to negative self-talk, take a moment to think about all the things in your life that are actually going well and give yourself some credit for all of those great things too!
Fake it till you make it
It might sound strange but sometimes faking confidence and pretending like we feel fantastic can actually help us reach that positive state of mind! If we try and smile every day, set small goals and avoid saying “I can’t” – it will slowly become a habit and we’ll start to feel great in no time!
