It’s easy to take things for granted. You might not appreciate it enough that you have a roof over your head or that you have food to eat. So many people don’t have these necessities and opportunities, so appreciate what you do have.
Here are 10 things you should be grateful for every day:
Good Health (most of the time)
Are you healthy? What are you thankful for when it comes to your health? When I wake up in the morning, one of the first things I think about is how blessed I am to be healthy. We all get sick occasionally, but that’s no reason not to be grateful.
Do you trade health for anything? A new car, some money, time to do what you want? Health is more valuable than all of those. You are very lucky if you are healthy enough to be able to walk or run or play sports or even just lie down on your bed without feeling awful. So many people are not so lucky.
There are so many things we take for granted. When was the last time you were thankful that you woke up today? What would happen if you didn’t wake up tomorrow morning? While it might not be your favorite thought, it is certainly something to be grateful for. Think about how many people in this world don’t get to wake up every morning and go through each day with such a sense of purpose.
If you’re alive, you are so lucky. Some people don’t get to experience life at all because they die young or suffer for their whole lives. So many things happen in this world that you have no control over. Wars break out, natural disasters storm in, planes crash, boats sink…you name it! All these things are awful and tragic, but at least you’re alive. That should be reason enough to show gratitude every single day.
We tend to take love for granted as well. Do you still feel loved even though your significant other make mistakes? Is that person someone worth loving if they continue to make the same mistakes or don’t improve? You might think you know all there is to know about love, but it’s not until we lose something do we ever truly appreciate it.
Think of a time when you were sick and had no one around to help. Or maybe a time when you didn’t go on a date in months and barely any guys/girls showed any interest. Where is your “friend” now? Where are they when it comes to time of need, or even just hanging out with you? Show gratitude for the love you have in your life. One day it might be gone and there will be no one else who understands you the way they do.
Family and Friends
Who is there to support you when you’re going through a hard time? Your family and friends are the people who will always be there for you with open arms. You might not have realized it until something or someone goes missing, but family and friends are so important. No one in this world can ever replace them.
So many people have lost loved ones because of wars or accidents that no one will ever understand what they are gone through if they didn’t experience it themselves. Or maybe they do understand but just don’t know how to explain it properly…You might not completely comprehend how blessed you are until something tragic happens in your own life, but then you will finally see how lucky you were to have people in your life to whom you were so close.
Think about it: do you have the freedom to do whatever you want? If you’re an adult, some certain rules and regulations come into the picture. You might not like them but they exist for a reason, and that is because we aren’t completely responsible or mature enough. So be grateful that people care enough about you and others to put rules in place and enforce them!
You might not think this is much of a privilege when it comes to taking things for granted, but when was the last time someone imposed restrictions on your life? Were you able to speak up when they did? Can you even imagine what it would be like to not be free in any way? Who knows, you might end up somewhere controlled and no one would give a shit about your opinions. So count your blessings that you don’t live under such scrutiny.
We take so many things for granted these days. It’s as if we have forgotten how luxurious life can be. We complain about the littlest things instead of being grateful, which is quite sad to think about.
Think back to a time when you didn’t have your bedroom or living room to sit in. Or maybe you didn’t have access to clean drinking water or even a bathroom. Just imagine that someone forced you to go through this for an entire day, and then come back home. How would you feel afterward?
Now think of the opposite circumstance where you have all of these things available to use at your disposal! How would it feel to know that you can change your clothes whenever you want and clean yourself with a nice warm shower? How would it be if you had the most comfortable bed in the world right outside of your bedroom door?
Basic Human Rights
Count your blessings that you can do things like vote. Even if the people you are voting for are not necessarily what’s best for everyone, you still have the opportunity to voice your opinion and stand up for what you believe in.
Not everyone is so lucky, which blows my mind because all of this should be available to everyone. And still, people don’t even realize what they have been given and take it for granted. It makes me feel as if I am the only one who realizes how lucky we are to be able to choose a president or prime minister that will run our country.
The Time We Have on Earth
This is something we should be grateful for every single day, and yet we just waste it away without even thinking about it twice. Isn’t it ironic that a lot of the people who complain the most about their lives are the same ones who don’t appreciate the time they have on Earth? Life is a gift that shouldn’t be wasted by sitting around and complaining all day.
How long do you think you will live? Can you honestly say that you know exactly how much of your life you have left? No, because we never know what can happen. My point in saying this is that you can’t change how much time you have here, but you can choose how to use it. Wouldn’t you want to make your time count?
Education and Knowledge
This one might be a little controversial because we all know there are a lot of people out there who don’t have access to education, but I think it is still important to be grateful for the opportunity that you have been given.
For anyone reading this, consider yourself lucky that you were able to go through elementary school and high school. Now imagine if there was no such thing as higher learning. You would be stuck doing whatever you could to survive and trying not to starve. The truth is that education allows us to learn more about our world and shape it into something better than what we have today.
Your Ability to Help Others
It should be a basic human right to be able to help other people, and yet there are so many people out there who cannot. I know this might sound like I am contradicting myself after talking about how lucky we are for what we do have, and that is true! We need to thank God every day for all of the things we do have and for blessing us with them.
I believe that every person should be able to help other people, even if it is just a smile or small talk. We need to remember that sometimes an encouraging word can go a long way because not having someone there can be extremely difficult. Besides, who doesn’t want to be able to help those around them?
There are so many things that we must be grateful for every day, no matter how small or seemingly inconsequential. We can’t even count how many blessings we have. We need to remember that there are people out there who do not have the same opportunities as us and might never get them.
That’s why it is so important to look at all of the blessings in your life and never take them for granted. You might be surprised to find that there are so many things you have been thankful for, but never realized it. We all need to remember the bigger picture and work together to make this world a better place, because we can all play an important role!
